Lithuania plans to close two of its six border crossings with Belarus in response to growing threats. This was announced by Arnold Abramavicius, Lithuania's deputy interior minister, in response to the movement of mercenaries from the Wagner terrorist group into Belarus. The closure of border crossings is aimed at reducing the risk of clashes with the threats, BNS reported.

Deputy Interior Minister Abramavicius said Lithuania plans to reduce the number of checkpoints on its border with Belarus from six to four. Poland currently has only one checkpoint, while Lithuania has six. The closure of some checkpoints is a precautionary measure to ensure border security and prevent potential conflicts.

Among the border crossings under consideration for closure are Shumskas and Tverych. However, a decision will be made in the near future. The measures will be part of Lithuania's strategy to maintain stability on the border with Belarus.

Saulius Nekrasiavicius, deputy commander of the State Border Service of Lithuania, stressed that closing some checkpoints will help reduce the risk of threats from the increased presence of mercenaries of the Wagner terrorist group in Belarus.

The growing threat from the neighboring country is prompting Lithuania to take necessary measures to ensure the security of its borders. Closing border crossings and reducing the number of checkpoints is considered an important step toward maintaining stability in the region.

Lithuania is taking precautionary measures to prevent potential conflicts with Belarus and maintain the security of its borders. Closing checkpoints and revising border crossings is one of the country's strategies to ensure national security.
