Iceland has become the first European country to close its embassy in the Russian Federation. According to the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "commercial, cultural and political ties with Russia are at an all-time low, and the work of the embassy in Moscow is no longer justified."
This decision was made in the context of decreasing interaction between the countries, as well as taking into account the difficult situation in the international arena. The Icelandic Embassy in Moscow will no longer be able to fulfill its previous tasks due to the deterioration of relations and lack of interaction.
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland stated that cooperation with Russia is at a historic low, and the lack of prospects for improvement also influenced the decision to close the embassy. At the same time, this action is also a response to the Russian Federation's attempts to negatively influence the international situation and violate international law and order.
The Icelandic Embassy in Russia previously performed important functions in maintaining diplomatic relations, promoting cultural and economic exchanges, and coordinating joint projects. The closure of the embassy indicates a change in Iceland's approach to cooperation with Russia and a revision of its attitude to diplomatic relations.
The decision is part of Iceland's strategy to strengthen cooperation with other countries and to enhance its role in the international arena. At the same time, it may reflect Iceland's interest in finding new opportunities for cooperation with other countries and developing partnerships.
