At the last Sotheby's auction, the painting Lady with a Fan the last work of Austrian artist Gustav Klimt, was sold for an impressive $108.4 million. This was the highest price paid for a work of art in Europe. This was reported by Forbes, citing the auction house.

The portrait "Lady with a Fan" ("Dame mit Fächer"), made by Klimt, appeared at auction for the first time in 29 years. The expected price for the work, set by Sotheby's, was $80 million.

This work of the Austrian artist became not only the most expensive painting ever to appear at auction in Europe, but also the most valuable portrait presented at the auction, according to Sotheby's.

After a lively 10-minute bidding session with four buyers, the painting was purchased by art consultant Patti Wong, representing a Hong Kong collector, The Guardian reports.
