On 28 February, Russian occupiers took a 5-year-old girl and her grandmother from Kyiv region to Belarus. The child sustained a bullet wound to the head due to the shelling of the car in which her parents and 18-year-old brother were trying to leave the war zone.

Thanks to the heroic efforts of Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials and the work of the consular operational service, the woman and the child were found. The girl was operated on. Maryana Botsviniuk, an employee of the consular department of the embassy, arranged temporary custody of the child, because the girl had lost her parents, and an identity card for her subsequent return to her home country.
